San Vigilio di Marebbe, Italy - February 4-11 2023
Meeeting: February 4-11, 2023
Benoit Combemale University of Rennes 1, France
Antonio Bucchiarone Fondazione Bruno Kessler, Italy
Alfonso Pierantonio Università degli Studi dell’Aquila, Italy
The scope of the meeting is to bring together world-class experts in modeling, model-based engineering, model-driven engineering, and language engineering (briefly M-ALL) to examine the impediments that prevent M-ALL from being more prominently considered by students, researchers, and practitioners. M-ALL has been successfully applied in many software and system engineering areas and now addresses even broader and novel scenarios, e.g., digital twins and analytics, in an increasing number of application domains, including natural and multi-physics systems. Such new perspectives challenge both the seminal, yet limited, foundations, e.g., conformity and instantiation, on which most of the tools and methods are based, as well as the way of teaching M-ALL to possibly heterogeneous communities (from software engineers to domain experts and citizen developers).
New concerns related to (multi-)fidelity, abstraction, precision, uncertainty, substitutability, accuracy, validity, and more are emerging very quickly and need to be precisely defined and related to enable the sound development of the future generation of the required M-ALL approaches. Also, introducing M-ALL to possibly very different communities would lead to different ways of teaching these foundations and how to use/integrate M-ALL in the development life cycle.
During the meeting, we intend to discuss, define and formalize the new M-ALL foundations required to address the aforementioned upcoming scenarios. In particular, we are expecting deep discussions to identify and relate these foundations, the possible definition of a conceptual model about all these foundations, and their illustration through their application to representative case studies. Also, we are expecting to discuss how to introduce these foundations, with possible variations according to the targeted communities and the proper expected tool support.
The meeting will be held at Hotel Monte Sella in San Vigilio di Marebbe (St. Vigil in German, Al Plan de Mareo in Ladin). A beautiful location for all those who enjoy the great outdoors in between the world-renowned Dolomites on one side and Kronplatz mountain on the other. High-quality skiing is possible on Kronplatz/Plan-de-Corones, with an infrastructure network and slopes among the most appreciated in Europe. In this unique environment, outdoor activities and the atmosphere of a mountain hotel will promote personal interaction and more open discussion of results by building more confidence among the participants.
